Convolutional Decoders for Amateur Packet Radio
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper describes two freely available convolutional decoders written in the C language. One implements the Fano algorithm for sequentially decoding three rate l/2 K=32 codes while the other implcmcnts the Viterbi algorithm for maximum likelihood decoding of the rate l/2 K=7 NASA Standard code. Both support 8-W soft-decision decoding with arbitrary metric tables and perform according to theory.

Toward New Link Layer Protocols
This paper describes an experimental new link layer protocol for amateur packet radio use. It extends my earlier MACA scheme for dealing with hidden terminals by incorporating a powerful forward error correction (FEC) scheme: convolutional coding with sequential decoding. The resulting hybrid protocol combines the best of the FEC and retransmission (ARQ) techniques. It should perform very well ...
متن کاملThe Network News Transfer Protocol and its use in packet radio
The exchange of news bulletins is very popular among amateur packet radio users today. But there are currently no standardized protocols in use, and there is no widespread use of news forwarding protocols at all among amateur TCP/IP stations. This paper discusses how the Network News Transfer Protocol can be used to distribute news between stations on packet radio networks. NNTP is a standardiz...
متن کاملAdding Packet Radio to the Ultrix Kernel
This paper describes the results of a project in which the standard Amateur Packet Radio network link layer protocol, AX.25 (a modified version of X.25), was added to the Ultrix kernel. By implementing AX.25 under Ultrix, and by taking advantage of the IP implementations that already exist for PCs, it is possible for packet radio users with PCs to access IP-based services running on our server ...
متن کاملPacket Radio in the Amateur Service
Ahstruct -During the past several years there has been much activity in the development of networking hardware and software for personal computers. At the same time the amateur radio community has been equally active in the development of networking equipment and procedures especially suited for radio circuits. Although the initial efforts have been with terrestrial circuits, experimentation wi...
متن کاملPerformance Modeling of TCP and UDP over Packet Radio Networks using the ns-2 Network Simulator
Live network tests are often used to obtain performance metrics associated with the transmission of data using TCP and UDP over packet radio networks. However, only individuals who hold an amateur radio license issued by the United States Federal Communications Commission, as specified by Title 47, Code of Federal Regulations, Part 97, are permitted to operate an amateur station. For this reaso...
